Lake Arlington officials allow water draw for fracking by Quicksilver Over a three month period earlier this year, they used one and a half million barrels of raw lake water (times 42 gallons per barrel) which is 63 million gallons. At $4.75 per 1,000 gallons, they paid $300,000 over a three month period utilizing 3 of their 12 meters.

That is .005 cents per gallon.,+Arlington,+Texas+76013&gl=us&ll=32.712765,-97.22159&spn=0.000753,0.00086&t=h&z=20&vpsrc=6

On a different note…

Last night Council approved six more gas wells in this area. I was so pleased I was able to speak against those new wells without our mayor interrupting me. I actually paid him and Council Woman Capehart a nice thank you for suggesting our new gas drilling ordinance should give thought to green completions and vapor recovery systems. They let me speak and minutes later without discussion of the two teachers who did not return to teach near all this drilling activity (one died and another is fighting to live) ….they voted these in…so much for being nice for a change.

But the small baby steps I saw in some progress was that Councilmen Bennett and Shepard (who is a rocking musician-I never saw a bass player move like that!) ..they voted “NO” to those six gas wells…I don’t know if it is because we are in a drought or they were moved by my plea of these wells being downwind to so many schools…? I mean my husband and his brothers stood to get royalties off of these wells from their deceased fathers estate…yet the bigger picture here is not short lived royalties, but what is at stake is a livable Arlington.

Even if we do get a strong ordinance…it is too late for Arlington because  the already existing 60 gas well sites in Arlington will NOT have to abide by the new ordinance.

In fact the new ordinance will make for administrative approval of gas wells at existing sites without notification unless you live or breathe within 600 feet of a pad site.

It really doesn’t matter when or if the new gas drilling ordinance ever goes into effect…like Councilman (Pacemaker) Patrick told me once…”look at this (city) map…there aren’t that many undeveloped areas left for drilling”.

Yep no matter how many baby steps we take…the direction this town is on is towards the cliff.

About Kim Triolo Feil

Since TX Statute 253.005 forbids drilling in heavily settled municipalities, I unsuccessfully ran for City Council Seat to try to enforce this. Since Urban Drilling, our drinking water has almost tripled for TTHM's. Before moving to Arlington in 1990, I lived in Norco’s “cancer alley”, a refinery town. It was only after Urban Drilling in Arlington did I start having health effects. After our drill site was established closest to my home, the chronic nosebleeds started. I know there are more canaries here in Arlington having reactions to our industrialized airshed (we have 55-60 padsites of gas wells). Come forward and report to me those having health issues especially if you live to the north/northwest of a drill site so I can map your health effects on this blog.
