Authorities say one person has been killed and another seriously injured after a gas plant explosion in southeast Texas. The Houston Chronicle reports that one employee was flown to a hospital after the incident Saturday morning in La Porte, 25 miles southeast of Houston. Another worker was missing. The newspaper says crews found a body after searching for about 12 hours, but couldn’t confirm the victim’s identity Saturday night. The explosion happened at the Air Liquide plant. The company’s website describes itself as “the world leader in gases for industry, health and the environment.” A spokeswoman says the facility houses a mix of industrial gases such as nitrogen and hydrogen that are used in the processing of food, beverages and electronics. Authorities say air monitoring shows no dangerous substances.

On Feb 3, 2013 another mishap at gas processing plant- this time in Big Springs TX has injured two Railroad Commission inspectors with smoke inhalation.

“Gas processing plants remove the water, H2S, CO2 and natural gas liquids from the raw natural gas to produce the market-ready natural gas. Flares are used to dispose of the unmarketable gases. All gas plants have flares to burn off gas safely during emergencies or “upset” conditions that interrupt the normal day-to-day operations. Many of the small plants are licensed to flare H2S rich gas after it has been removed.”

The City of Dallas is thinking of allowing a gas processing plant near a new soccer park, golf course, and private school……I dunno…probably not a good idea…..I’m sure they’d need a flare….wouldn’t that be TEXAS P U R D Y.

About Kim Triolo Feil

Since TX Statute 253.005 forbids drilling in heavily settled municipalities, I unsuccessfully ran for City Council Seat to try to enforce this. Since Urban Drilling, our drinking water has almost tripled for TTHM's. Before moving to Arlington in 1990, I lived in Norco’s “cancer alley”, a refinery town. It was only after Urban Drilling in Arlington did I start having health effects. After our drill site was established closest to my home, the chronic nosebleeds started. I know there are more canaries here in Arlington having reactions to our industrialized airshed (we have 55-60 padsites of gas wells). Come forward and report to me those having health issues especially if you live to the north/northwest of a drill site so I can map your health effects on this blog.
