You want the Truth? You can’t handle the truth! by Deborah Rogers

Forbes posted an article three years ago posing the question…..
Analyst Dave Pursell at oil and gas investment bank Tudor, Pickering & Holt directed these words to the anti-frack crowd, inspired by Jack Nicholson’s character in A Few Good Men.  His rendition of the tired retort to concerned water drinkers and air breathers that we shouldn’t question their processes if we use their products was creative, but I so delighted to find that Ft Worth economist, Deborah Rogers 3 years ago wrote back in the comments…..

“It is interesting to note that Mr. Pursell is paraphrasing from a character in a movie who is a psychopath. Nevertheless, I will follow his lead.

You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth! We live in a world that needs alternative forms of energy which are not hydrocarbon based, forms of energy that do not contaminate at every stage of their lifecycle, that do not place benzene and formaldehyde in our air, diesel fuel in our aquifers and more benzene and formaldehyde as we drive our kids to work. Who’s gonna do that? Exxon Mobil, Chesapeake? The energy industry is like a pusher who does his best to keep the junkies on their fix. And there is no doubt about it that we are junkies. You weep for the days when no one questioned anything you did or held you to any form of accountability. You had that luxury. You had the luxury of being exempt from every major environmental act that other industries had to follow and it made you fat and lazy. You failed to keep up with the modern world. Your processes are dirty and outdated, your safety plans are non-existent. But you want us to feel grateful for your pollution, grateful for your spills. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about on Twitter, you want us on that dope, you need us on that dope. You use words like pressure, proppant, conductivity and think you have blinded us with science. You use phrases such as jobs lost, tax revenues like a come on and marvel at how our elected officials swoon. We, the people, have neither the time nor the inclination to listen anymore to someone who spews carcinogens in our air, oceans, rivers and aquifers and then expects us not to question the manner in which you provided them. We would rather you just said thank you. Thank you for pointing out that it is no good if our neighborhoods are poisoned, our aquifers polluted and our politicians screwed. You’ll just go on your way like the proverbial travelin’ man. We suggest you pick up a pipe wrench and make a better world. We’ll meet you on location. We’ve got changes to make!”

About Kim Triolo Feil

Since TX Statute 253.005 forbids drilling in heavily settled municipalities, I unsuccessfully ran for City Council Seat to try to enforce this. Since Urban Drilling, our drinking water has almost tripled for TTHM's. Before moving to Arlington in 1990, I lived in Norco’s “cancer alley”, a refinery town. It was only after Urban Drilling in Arlington did I start having health effects. After our drill site was established closest to my home, the chronic nosebleeds started. I know there are more canaries here in Arlington having reactions to our industrialized airshed (we have 55-60 padsites of gas wells). Come forward and report to me those having health issues especially if you live to the north/northwest of a drill site so I can map your health effects on this blog. 1. Great Words from Deborah , as usual. We are coming out of our drugged stupor; being gassed by the gas industry for years. Major changes need to be made; We need to bring down all the rigs and pull out all the casings and pipes and clean up the land and bring in the truly, clean energies/fuels….
