UPDATE August 5 2015….Starting last night…(with our new mayor’s influence?)…finally the thoughts on Citizens minds & heart (and lungs) NOT worthy of being on the agenda DO get recorded…thank you!!! Now to get Citizen Participation FIRST on the agenda like they do in Pantego so those don’t have to sit though a whole meeting.
I recorded this myself last night….at the time I didn’t know it was being recorded….
Here is the back ground as to why I am recording these….
Once I started speaking on every gas well drilling agenda item…which is alot cause we have about 60 padsites in Arlington gasland Texas, the speaking time was reduced from 3 minutes to 2 minutes.
Then they tweeked our ordinance so that future gas wells will be administratively approved so that no more agenda items will be available for public comment once a drilling zone has been established & once the first well is permitted.
So the only time you get to rant about the risk to health and property values of nearby drilling in your neighborhoods would be at the end of the City Council meetings called “Citizen Participation”…..but now they don’t record and archive those anymore. SO here we go..citizen participation at work to record these for you.
In this video, the first speaker complained about the two minute limit and how council uses police/fire associations to help them get re-elected. Next I spoke on a few things that I will detail here because I ran out of memory….
1) How the proposed Eden Housing Development was approved when there are issues of an illegible letter regarding a pipeline and a nearby gaswell (700ft) that had an emission event four days before the first vote/approval.
2) How approving Chesapeake to buy and pipe in reclaimed water at $2.50 which is more economic than using their higher priced fresh water.. but that either way, fracking ith reclaimed or fresh water is single use water and we are in a drought. I also took issue with the temporary piping/hoses possibly just relenishing the frack ponds instead of preventing or doing away with frack ponds which may attrack West Nile virus. But my main message to them was that during the drilling stage that fresh water needs to be used to punch through the acquifer or they risk contaminaing our ground water.
3) How the budget was for the fourth year passed without allowing for the purchase of an infrared camera that can see invisible emissions coming off the padsites.
I’d say with confidence that those two speakers tonight had things that the rest of us need to hear…do you agree?
