UPDATE Jan 2016 https://youtu.be/CpmWPEhIaiU video covering NG garbage truck exploding in Indianapolis. Here is story….“a fire caused the carbon fiber tanks holding the fuel to burst. The cylinders reportedly shot up to a quarter-mile and damaged five businesses”. The first fire was possibly caused from friction of combustibles (see DFW scanner pic below).
The Wrightspeed system for getting garbage truck to run on EV…
“The running costs are much lower, both maintenance and fuel. You can save about $35,000 per year on fuel per truck and about $20,000 per year in maintenance.”
Aubrey Mcclendon once said we need to create NG demand-getting cars to run on them is the holy grail…yep from hell! I’m tired of these drilling towns promoting NG use-aren’t you?
Oct 2014 UPDATE…Below is my comment in case it is not allowed …the city of Arlington is reminding people to hook up to natural gas and is pushing the needle of fossil fuels into our lungs so the drillers can come back and frack us in our own back yards..they have no shame and no limit to the depths of their desperation to make our town have the worst air quality possible.
“Of course you want people to use natural gas…create the demand is what you were told to do at a mayors conference years ago…I’ve heard Betsy Price, the Ft Worth mayor do a NG gas commercial…this is pathetic…methane leaks from gas extraction & distribution negates its cleaner burning side and makes it worse than coal and speeds up global warming and bad weather patterns…fracking and those storage tanks in our good town makes our ozone worse and that eats out our lungs, buildings and crops…but hey you can warm your home…well the sun can too! Choose an energy company that uses 100% renewable options not gas, and visit solar companies websites as they are offering home loans now..so when the weather gets bad, if the electricity goes off, you are still “on”. One thing about NG and frigid temps is “that” is when NG is most unreliable… because the well heads freeze up. Also impassible roads for the trucks to come and empty out the produced water causes the wells to auto shut in (or overflow). Frigid temps can and has disrupted supply to the pipelines. It happened during the superbowl in Arlington. I have blogged about the interdependency flaws of using NG as feedstock for power plants…its not a good fit…especially if the power goes off and the “electric” NG compressor stations go down…they have emission events called “blow downs” and we don’t need those dirty raw gasses being spewed in our air either. The compressor stations near Lake Arlington and at Harris & Eden and the seven other (alleged) smaller unknown locations in Arlington already threaten our air quality with Benzene spewing 24/7 hydrocarbons invisibly…You can see those emission on youtube under search words “Lake Arlington Invisible Emissions Storage Tanks”….nope don’t let the city try to sell you natural gas- its the (dirty) step sister of fossil fuels and we are better than that as a society to continue using these dinosaur fuels of the past-keep them in the ground ya’ll or they will come fracking for it in your backyards and in our airshed of Arlington cancer prone now residents.”
June 2014 update….now that we are doing what ANGA has asked the mayor to do* (create a demand for Natural Gas so they can keep fracking in our backyards), the City of Arlington now supports NG refuse trucks by Waste Managment (who just gave us a “Livabiltiy” award…for animals..I’m laughing). And they also get $upport from the RRC …
I recently had fun with a video I edited of Rail Road Comissioner, David Porter not being able to articulate the word “sustainable” when speaking about fracking and his Eagle Ford Shale task force. But then I came across a press release around six months ago where Mr Porter was pictured with our Dr Mayor Robert Cluck receiving a check from the RRC for adopting the use of city owned natural gas vehicles. We also contract with Republic Services who use NG fueled refuse recycling trucks….
Now I get to laugh about this big recall (25,000 engines) from Cummins who manufactures them to run on that beloved Natural Gas. Seems they have this condensate problem with freezing weather risking exhaust fires…oops now I get to add yet another problem with Natural Gas in freezing conditions…BTW…as I type this…it is freezing raining outside.
I need to keep laughing to keep from crying…we are fracked ya’ll.
