WE NEED YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT ATTAINING A SAFE SMOG STANDARD click here…. http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=EPA-HQ-OAR-2008-0699
At the Arlington hearing we had about 102 speakers in favor of the 60 ppb verses the 13 industry paid? including two Chamber of Commerce representatives from Baton Rouge LA and Longview TX. I did miss one hour of testimony to drive someone home from a medical procedure-so this is not a comprehensive set of pictures. This needed to be video recorded in it’s entirety.
Here is the Dallas Morning News coverage-add your comments there too.
The Star Telegram reposted the coverage from The Dallas Morning News in a special section hidden away area….
“Dallas-Fort Worth’s average level for 2011-14 was 81 ppb.”
Some CW33 stills here..
Thanks to Alice Canestaro Garcia for the following pictures…
Here are the pictures that I took….
The next video deserves your comments on youtube…..
Here is one 11 second chilling comment …..
Here is a partial video FLIR statement – apologies for the clarity issue….
Here is a video of half of what I told the EPA….
My camera cut off my rap that I demonstrated to the EPA folks and the rest of my impromptu statements. Here is my full statement that I submitted directly to the EPA comment link line…
“I am Kim Feil of Arlington Gasland Texas. I blog about fracking risks on WWW.BarnettShaleHell.wordpress.com and have studied the oil & gas industry full time for about 7 years now. This is my account of when I personally spoke at the EPA Public Hearing held in Arlington on January 29, 2015….
I first noticed breathing issues after Urban Drilling came into Arlington when I would drive my children to school across town, I would come home and cough for about a half hour. When I was sure our air was horrible was when I could not get enough air to perform a rap/song at a multi church sponsored Easter Egg Hunt on a sunny day in Arlington Gasland TX at when I could not get enough air to sing/rap in one breath….
“OH HELP ME FATHER GOD TO LIVE OUTSIDE MY SKIN;
BY FLESH AND BLOOD I’M PRISONER TO THIS WORLD THAT I’M IN.
MUST I LIVE IN MY HEART?
HOW FAR TO DIG TO START
TO SEE MY PURPOSE IN YOUR PLAN RULE OVER SIN…”
Then I said that we consume too much and that manufacturing is a zero sum game to the environment in making unnecessary trinkets. That kids in some other countries see real beauty in where they live and cited some children that visited recently from Africa that couldn’t wait to get back home (weren’t hooked on computer gadgets & their necks didn’t hurt). I bet all this DFW concrete was ugly to them!
I pointed out that the other clean air advocates that spoke before me wanting the coal plants to switch to natural gas got it wrong. That all the methane leaks are hurtling us towards extinction. They will only switch back to coal when the price of natural gas goes up. I said that while the fossil fuel industry brought our country to prosperity, that wind and solar is now on parity pricing (cheap actually) with fossil fuels and that the era of fossil fuels must come to an end. I recognize, however, that we still need the big energy players to help us transition to renewables (base demand/grid building/infrastructures/fueling stations, etc…jobs!!).
I said that with low crude prices coupled with a lower ozone standard set at 60 ppb (but aim for 35) will put a squeeze on the energy industries to change their business models (to solar) before we lose that window of opportunity to avert run-away global warming. I said that TCEQ doesn’t believe in manmade Global Warming but that our EPA does. That you, EPA, have the power to change/save the world with your leadership. I said that we must act now if we want to continue to exist as a human species on this ever increasing hostile planet.
I ran out of speaking time, but got in that our TCEQ (SIP) State Implementation (to ozone compliance) Plan does not include the emissions from wildfires and all these fossil fuel & chemical related accidents that are proliferating with the expansion of fracking. Just today a huge steel plant fire billowed smoke our way from Midlothian. Accounting for emissions from fracking and emissions from accidents or Acts of God must be considered in how we meet ozone standards.”
And so the EPA hearing held at Arlington City Hall is now history. May this hearing be a catalyst to compel the EPA to decide how much of an ozone standard ppb to be set. May the green alert (verses yellow, orange, purple & red) be TRUELY protective of human health. RIP Jeff who died on a green alert day.
How fitting that Alice Canestaro Garcia…took this picture in Arlington Gasland TexASS…
