Indian Trail (Creek) and the kids that play in it – risky?

There’s nothing like an old fishing hole that you’d like to think is really a secret…today those on a Facebook site entitled “You Know you’re from Arlington when..”are now privy to this Indian Trail road and (flowing) creek. Most people in Arlington don’t use that road unless they live in the area. I’ve lived here for almost 25 years and didn’t know about it. Last May in 2014 when we were giving some environmental attorneys from Houston a frack tour, I happened to have gone this route and took pictures ….

IMG_1067IMG_1066However a random dated google search yielded water rushing over the road….Screen shot 2015-05-24 at 3.50.07 PMAnd so today, May 24, 2015 THIS picture was posted after impressive rainfall amounts were recorded….Screen shot 2015-05-24 at 3.38.09 PMSo I guess more kids are now aware of this questionably safe swimming hole….my concern is all the frack sites in the area…most people tend to think that a big, cleansing rainfall is good…but all it does is risk spreading toxic pollution off of our drill sites and into our storm run off ditches and creeks.

UPDATE 8/2016….

Ah, good ol’ Rush Creek. That’s part of the Greater Trinity TMDL I-Plan that TCEQ oversees through NCTCOG. I believe they’re aware of recreation activity on that segment, but may not be aware of this particular case.  I’ll let NCTCOG know and get back to you if they have any comment.

About Kim Triolo Feil

Since TX Statute 253.005 forbids drilling in heavily settled municipalities, I unsuccessfully ran for City Council Seat to try to enforce this. Since Urban Drilling, our drinking water has almost tripled for TTHM's. Before moving to Arlington in 1990, I lived in Norco’s “cancer alley”, a refinery town. It was only after Urban Drilling in Arlington did I start having health effects. After our drill site was established closest to my home, the chronic nosebleeds started. I know there are more canaries here in Arlington having reactions to our industrialized airshed (we have 55-60 padsites of gas wells). Come forward and report to me those having health issues especially if you live to the north/northwest of a drill site so I can map your health effects on this blog.
