Benzene is in ALL the phases of Natural Gas Extraction. And so its no surprise that babies are found to have higher birth defects near drilling too.
- Click here to see that the City of Arlington has MSDS sheets for Benzene that Chesapeake uses during the DRILLING STAGE …
- Click here to read how they use Benzene during FRACKING STAGE
- Click here to see how Benzene amounts are dangerous to the workers exposed to the waste during the FLOWBACK STAGE.
- Click here to read coverage of FLARING in the Eagleford and its Benzene exposures during that process.
- Click here to learn how that waste driven to INJECTION WELLS have Phenol (a major metabolite of Benzene) had 93 million pounds injected in TX in 2011.
Keep in mind that one teaspoon of Benzene contaminates about 261,000 gallons of water
And so through cracks in the casing they are finding how the methane races up into the water wells. Unknown is if the other toxins like Benzene will later take the same route.
So click here for an interactive site where you can pick your poison or name your ailment and back into what chemicals can cause the health effect.
update August 2 2015… don’t be fooled by this report….
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0048969713010073 this isn’t a recent report….in fact the data points from TCEQ include the very suma canisters (that don’t measure aldehydes or any drilling chemicals) that don’t even measure methane (cause the RRC would or should fire the TCEQ for wasting our state’s mineral resources. Formaldehyde was found above Houston shipyard channel levels (in exceedances) at the Lake Arlington Compressor Station that the BSEEC paid for in that air test years ago….and they tried to say it was the cars or an off site source…but even if it was or is (they changed from diesel compressors to NG fired after that btw)…but even then it is a reckless act to permit additional emission sources next to existing emission sources when the state has loopholes to NOT aggregate those emissions on reporting standards. It took a few years and a few owner changes at that compressor station to finally get the CORRECT operating permit at the Lake Arlington Compressor Station. For years that Lake Arlington Compressor station was acting under a loosely regulated entity under a PBR (small emissions permit) when they were supposed to be TitleV in the first place! Now HB40 says that any Best Available Emission Control Technologies could be deemed NOT commercially reasonable (too expensive to use)…must I go on? Lake Arlington has a horrible reputation for cancer clusters in that area FYI…now there was ammunitions facilities in the past I admit…but NO local, state, or federal entity will regulate multiple, cumulative emissions that have the potential to be synergistically toxic to us…and that is exactly what we have near our Arlington drinking water reservoir.
