2/12/2016 http://www.gmwatch.org/news/latest-news/16706-argentine-and-brazilian-doctors-name-larvicide-as-potential-cause-of-microcephaly “In fact, out of 404 confirmed microcephaly cases in Brazil, only 17 (4.2%) tested positive for the Zika virus”.
update By now most people have heard (CDC) about Zika and to be ahead of the mainstream (I first blogged on Zika in Harris county TX on 1/19/16) news here is a new twist possibility… http://theantimedia.org/zika-outbreak-epicenter-in-same-area-where-gm-mosquitoes-were-released-in-2015/
Has introducing this GM mosquito in the tropics helped or harmed?… Per FDA 1/22/2016 update…. “Oxitec has produced a genetically engineered line of the mosquito Aedes aegypti (OX513A) with the intent of suppressing the population of that mosquito at the release site(s). Ae. aegypti is known to transmit the debilitating human virus-caused diseases zika, dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya and has been found in 23 of 50 U.S. states, but is most prevalent in the south. The OX513A genetically engineered mosquito has been approved for use in Brazil, and open field trials of these mosquitoes have been conducted in Brazil, the Cayman Islands, Panama, and Malaysia”.
CBS News reported in Feb of 2015…”Oxitec admits some females could slip through in the release process and potentially bite people, but they say it wouldn’t be any different than getting bitten by a wild mosquito. The FDA has not indicated when it will complete it’s review
Here is a CDC chart on those skeeters & prevention…
-end updates…start original blog on Zika——–
In order to expose more folks to Fracking risks on my blog, I started an RSOE journal on what I feel could be related to climate change in issues such as: Ebola & killer bees, giant (resistant to rodenticide) rat invasions, and the US cases of plague…well now I am starting a new diary. As of 1/14/16 right here in Texas (Harris County) we have the first (imported?) confirmation of the ZIKA VIRUS that is linked to a birth (brain) defect called microcephaly…..
“…. Zika has reached epidemic levels in Brazil and El Salvador, where the Texas woman diagnosed with it recently visited. While the connection to microcephaly isn’t yet concrete, but Brazil (where 1.5 million people have been infected with zika) is seeing 10 times the expected rate of the disorder. It’s also unknown how the virus spread so fast, or how it got to Brazil in the first place. “It’s probably not a case of if we get zika in our native mosquitoes, it’s probably a case of when we get zika in our native mosquitoes,” said Dr Umair A Shah, executive director of the Harris County department of public health”.
Also a baby in Hawaii was born with Zika, here is the link to the 1/16/16 story.
