on the 1/23/16 Saturday morning public meeting
“Skeptics remain after power plan Q&A”
for the plan to build TWO natural gas fired power plants in Denton TX.
BACKGROUND: First Denton citizens voted to ban fracking, then HB40 came along with a state-wide ban on fracking bans. Now the city is looking to build two natural gas fired plants investing in what many believe to soon to be an obsolete, unsustainable fossil fuel energy source…why create a demand for NG that BTW smacks in the face of “take that” for the citizens that tried to ban fracking there?
Please read these comments I (boldfaced
for emphasis) from Jodi Ismert (Facebook Denton Matters
) coverage/comment is so chilling!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE STORY PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR BECAUSE IT SHOWS THEY ARE CLOSED MINDED TO RESEARCHING THE AVAILABLE RENEWABLE TECHNOLOGIES..tisk tisk tisk!

“The Q&A session felt more like an extenstion of the OpenHouse we had in the fall. It felt like the same sales pitches were just reiterated again and again to every question posed. If you go back and watch, the answers given weren’t a response to the question itself. For example, I asked a question about emissions as a whole, but different individuals kept giving me a rehearsed response to proposed emissions that will be recorded on the books. I wasn’t looking for the energy equivalent of book value, I was looking for all totals without the energy equivalent of writedowns. No one would answer the question directly even though I know the answer: which is “yes, we will be increasing total emissions from today’s baseline”. No one would answer directly. Also, when another citizen asked for a yes or no answer to whether combining the emissions from both plants would make it a major source, no one would answer this question directly. The answer is “yes”, but instead of answering the question, this citizen was given another portion of the rehearsed sales pitch and when she asked the question again, they just kept repeating the sales pitch not answering her question. She finally moved on to the next question after a while of this avoidance. I also noticed that there was at least one council member and PUB officials sitting at the back of the room together and laughing and jeering at citizens asking questions, if any citizen asked more than 2 questions in response to the non-answers from the panel, the PUB members would shout and jeer at the citizens and say they had asked their one question and to move on. These were the ONLY people in the crowd yelling at citizens. I find it reprehensible that they would do this considering they are supposed to represent citizens’ interests and should be INTERESTED and curious what our thoughts are, but it was quite the opposite. The fact that the PUB is appointed by the council and the council is voted-in by the citizens, I think we absolutely need new representation of council and a overhaul of appointees on the PUB asap! It was very unprofessional. When I was standing in line, I was actually scolded by a PUB representative for clapping for a fellow citizen’s questions. Unacceptable. Who do they think they represent. I also saw one city council person laughing at citizens’ questions and at one point, he fell asleep. I found this to be so disrespectful.
Citizens want to be able to direct and have a say in the future and vision of our city. We should have representatives who want to work collaboratively with us instead of this nonsense. I believe some of our representatives do want to do this and others are starting to truly work with us. I hope that trend continues instead of what we experienced at this Q&A session. I had a meeting with a city council person recently and I believe this is the type of direction he wants as well. I think we can do this and the city just needs to be a willing partner instead of so set in their decisions”.
