Letter to Ask Chesapeake about water vapor venting noxious odors during flow back

http://www.texassharon.com/2012/01/10/arlington-residents-grow-weary-of-life-in-the-barnett-shale-gas-patch/

Jim and Chesapeake, what ever happened to green completions and closed loop systems? Why aren’t they mandated in our new ordinance? Please explain what I am seeing here. Is this what I can expect for the Truman/Cowboy Stadium drill site?

Are these flow back fluids NOT going through the separator because those holding tanks are not designed for fluids under higher pressure than produced water?

TCEQ told me these fluids HAVE to be vented or else a geyser would occur. We were told this is water vapor. If so, then it should not be under pressure and should be able to go through the separator and to the covered storage tanks.
What am I missing here? This looks exactly like the photos/video  I took on Christmas Eve at California and Cooper during their flow back phase. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o7Aiggm0P0
This clearly is NOT what urban drilling is suppose to look like. How can we co-exist near noxious, high pressure, explodable water having chemicals, radiation, arsenic, heavy metals etc. exposed to the residents, students and customers at these local businesses?

About Kim Triolo Feil

Since TX Statute 253.005 forbids drilling in heavily settled municipalities, I ran City Council Seat to try to enforce this. I lived in Norco’s “cancer alley”, a refinery town, and have become ultra sensitive to pollution since urban drilling has come to Arlington TX. I know there are more canaries here in Arlington having reactions to the new industrialized airshed (we have 55-60 padsites of gas wells). Come forward and report to me those having health issues especially if you live to the north/northwest of a drill site so I can map your health effects on this blog. My youtube account is KimFeilGood.

  1. I just heard another resident a mile from the flowback at Sublett and Cooper called TCEQ yesterday because of the odors too!!!

    Kim – I would vote for you if I could – but I don’t think they’d let me. I’m in Belfast! :)
